This class is limited to six participants. Small class sizes enable our teachers to give each individual participant the attention and guidance that they need. Small classes also feel more manageable for participants who feel uncomfortable in large spaces or in large groups of people.
Your yoga teacher, Rachelle Maree, is an experienced teacher who believes Yin Yoga is for everyone, anyone who wishes to slow down, rest, work on flexibility & joint mobility in a very gentle way.
Maintaining balance and flexibility is so important as we age and both and Yin Yoga is a wonderful and gentle way to strengthen both.
The class opens with gentle breath practices then moves to Yin Yoga postures offering strength, stretch, balance and general body awareness and closes with a long, guided relaxation.
In Yin, we use props (blocks & bolsters) to support our bodies – allowing gravity to find the pose for us. Holding these poses between 2-7 minutes makes Yin Yoga a meditative and contemplative practice, where the challenge lies in our ability to stay still for longer than normal while being more connected to what’s happening in our racing minds. This practice works our bodies in a “Yin” way by targeting our deeper tissues, such as our fascia, joints & bones.
When we choose to slow down, to be still to notice sensations of the body & the breath we help the mind to settle and create clarity, allowing us to be more connected with ourselves.
Yin Yoga offers wonderful emotional and mental health benefits. Through it we can become more aware, more present and more compassionate for ourselves and others.
This class is specifically designed for the over 50s.

The Collective is a safe space for staff, volunteers and visitors. We have implemented a Zero Tolerance Policy to ensure all individuals are treated with dignity and respect. This means that aggressive, disrespectful, or violent behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
If you violate this policy in any way, you will be asked to immediately leave the premises. You will not be refunded for the cost of the class regardless or whether or not it has started.
If you violate this policy over the telephone, any bookings that you have made will be cancelled. You will be refunded for any tickets purchased in advance. We will refuse to conduct any future business with you and any outstanding business will be finalised in writing only.
Instances of violence will immediately be referred to the police.
Any instances of written abuse will be handled with the same level of severity. All abusive correspondence received by our office will be retained for reference should the matter persist and need to be referred to the police.
Your class teacher will do their utmost to ensure you are safe through all the practises. However, you will need to be personally responsible for yourself. This means you need to listen to the feedback your body and mind are giving you.
Listening to and honouring your body’s messages will allow the transformation these practices can bring to you to be gradual and permanent.
This will be a personal experience, unique to each person. Try not to be competitive or compare yourself with others. Completely accepting yourself, as you are, will bring the most progress in your practice.
If you are feeling pain, it is a sign to soften and do less – approaching the practise more gently. There may be moments of slight discomfort as you move your body in new ways, deepen your breath, and learn the art of concentration, but there should never be any painful sensations.
